Great coverage by Nick K.   Before we get into Tatnuck Square:

  1. The traffic light on Moreland Street and Pleasant Street makes no sense to us.
  2. The traffic light on Pleasant Street and Wrentham should be taken out and put a walk signal in for the church.   Why not just turn the light on for only Sundays?

Putting that aside.  The two major road components, other then the traffic signal, concern the two legs of Mower Street that border the Whitaker Memorial:

  1. The part of Mower between Gerardi/People’s United and the Whitaker Memorial will become one lane leaving Tatnuck Square going towards Olean Steet.
  2. The part of Mower between Santander and the Whitaker Memorial will become three lanes, two lanes traffic entering from Mower towards Chandler Street and one land to handle Chandler Street traffic not wanting to go right or left on Pleasant Street.

Before and after:

  1. Right now you handle 4 lanes of traffic on these two legs
  2. After construction, you will handle 4 lanes of traffic on these two legs.

What does this improve?

The problem on Pleasant Street is that traffic backs up.  In fact there is alot of traffic that wants to turn right on to Mower Street and get out of the traffic, but can’t and increase the congestion.  Why?   Many cars in the right lane are going straight and hold up all the cars that want to turn right.. Over the years growing up on Stark Road, off Mower, I have seen literally thousands  of cars drive over Gerardi sidewalk to turn right to get around the car in front of them that is going straight!

If we were merely looking at the two legs of Mower Street we should add a 3rd escape lane on to Mower from Pleasant  (sorry Gerardi/Peoples-may require some land taking) for traffic turning right to alleviate the problems on Pleasant Street.

Bottom line we don’t see how the proposed changes will alleviate any of the traffic problems.
