All week, with the LA Galaxy and world famous forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic coming to town, and a great weather forecast for the night, a season high crowd came to Gillette stadium to watch the New England Revolution take on the LA Galaxy. Over 30,000 tickets were sold by Wednesday. But instead, Zlatan didn’t make the trip to Boston, citing the long travel and playing on turf. I’m sure there were many who were disappointed.

Even without Zlatan, there was still plenty of talking points and action in this match. It took a while to warm up, but after 25 minutes, we saw the first bit of action, however not good news for the Revs. Winger Christian Penilla was shown a straight red card, after LA’s Alessandrini took Penilla down from behind, Penilla retaliated by kicking out after the initial collision. A yellow card was shown to Alessandrini as well.
Being down to 10 players didn’t stop the Revs from attacking. Minutes after the Penilla red card, the Revs scored first. Combining on a nice give and go with Luis Caicedo on the first goal, both Diego and Luis would each score a goal, with the other providing an assist. In addition to Diego’ assist on th4 second Revs goal, Andrew Farrell was also credited with an assist, after he provided an excellent cross for Luis to head in, retaking the with moments before halftime.
Down a man? Not a problem for the #NERevs.

The Revs played most of the second half attacking, just like how the first half went. The Revs had several shots that went wide or high by not much. This went well in to the second half, with LA defense forced to clear a shot off the line, preventing a third Revs goal. Ashley Cole, who was later sent off with a red card after a nasty take down from behind on Juan Agudelo, made and excellent header to clear the ball from going in.
With the 90th minute, and a 2-1 lead, a win looked all but sealed. Except LA in a three minute span scored two goals to take the win. An absolute steal.
