Five years ago we realized the importance of video cameras and proposed that our the CDBG funds for our NRSA (Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy Area) should be used on security cameras
. After much discussions and going back and forth, we were able to establish that cameras on local businesses on public areas would improve safety and the surrounding neighborhood. Trust me, it was not easy.. These cameras have helped in many investigating many crimes since installation.
Sadly it ended pretty much there after installing 5 systems…. At the same time, we are happy to see that the video systems seem to becoming widely accepted. Why not give out tax rebates of $1,000 to businesses that will install cameras and share outside feeds with the police department. Obviously certain standards would need to be established, but it would be $1,000 well invested by the City of Worcester…
