Worcester, MA–The Junior League of Worcester (JLW) and its new Board of Managers kicked-off the organization’s 90th year with a move of its headquarters.   Established in 1925, this non-profit organization began the move from Whitman Road to its new setup inside the Executive Suites at 255 Park Avenue. The JLW will be fully operational before the end of the month with an active volunteer roster of about 30.

League President Melanie Perreault stated, “We are moving into our 90th year of service. This is a lot of history. We want to be a part of Worcester for years to come so we completed this move to scale back our operating costs in order to better allocate our funds towards the projects and workshops that serve the community. We have exciting things in store this year and we are looking forward to reaching the girls and families who need our help.”

With a refined focus on self-sufficiency, the organization is looking forward to continuing its mission to promote voluntarism, develop the potential of women and improve the Worcester Community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Through the generosity of a number of sponsors and grants, the JLW will continue the following programs:

  • Food for Thought (F4T)— F4T offers self-sufficiency focused workshops to middle school girls on topics such as body image/health, self-defense, etiquette, personal hygiene, study and social skills, public speaking, technology, social media, and crisis management. The sessions will be taught either by JLW volunteers or outside instructors/trained professionals and has been offered to girls participating in programs such as Girls CHOICE and Girls Inc.
Kids in the Kitchen— This educational program is part of a national initiative developed and supported by The Association of Junior Leagues International to empower youth to make healthy lifestyle choices and help reverse the growth of childhood obesity and its associated health issues.
  • Scholarship – The JLW supports the community through scholarships to young women who demonstrate a commitment to volunteering and leadership.
