The Boston Bruins were heavily outplayed for the majority of the game Wednesday night in Pittsburgh. However, despite the direction the puck was heading in (the Boston end) the Bruins pulled through and beat the Penguins, 3-2 in overtime.
The Bruins looked slower and lazier than Pittsburgh for most of the night. The Bruins are used to being called for more penalties than their opponents, last night the Bruins being slower than the Penguins resulted in some absolute lazy play from Boston sending them to the box. Somehow the Bruins were able to survive being outshot 34-22 by one of the best teams in the NHL, they prevailed on Patrice Bergeron’s second goal of the game.
Tuukka Rask finally stole a game for the Bruins, stopping 32 pucks on the night, a lot of tremendous chances for the Penguins as well. Another surprise from the night, Milan Lucic. Lucic posted two assists with a +3-rating for the night as well. Trade talk involving Lucic lately so it was good to see him come out and play a strong game for Boston.
Zdeno Chara tallied the first goal for Boston, Bergeron would be responsible for the next two. The overtime goal was reviewed, but it was determined Bergeron deflected the puck below cross-bar level, giving the Bruins a win finally. The Bruins snapped a three game losing streak and jumped back into the playoff picture.
The Bruins host the New Jersey Devils tonight at home.
