Just after midnight this morning there was a brawl at 60 Shrewsbury Street, where several people were stabbed and rushed by ambulance to U. Mass Lake Ave. Campus here two victims were sent immediately to the O.R.shrewsbury street
After the Worcester Police broke up the melee at 60 Shrewsbury Street, there was a report of a white male dressed all in black that was stabbing people with a box cutter. When the Police were diverted from the he nearby scene of the melee that had taken place shortly before, they discovered multiple victims requiring medical services from the attack, and made two arrests on the scene for Assault and Battery with a deadly weapon on a male, and also on a female suspect.

Two victims made their own way to U. Mass Memorial Hospital on Belmont where they sought treatment for their injuries.  U. Mass Hospital Police summoned Worcester Police to the Hospital as is the proper procedure for all stabbing and shooting injuries that walk in for treatment.   The injured parties left before the police could arrive.  It was later learned that they had gone there to find the other victims from the attack at Washington Square.

As if all that were not bad enough, at 1:33 another call came in reporting that there was a fight involving a lot of people behind the Union Station in the area behind the Parking Garage on Franklin Street.   This is a new phenomenon for the City of Worcester, large gangs of youths fighting in public venues that serve alcohol. Worcester has been spared this type of mayhem up to this point, and we need to put a stop to it with harsh penalties handed out to the participants as a message to those that evaded capture in this incident.

This reporter will investigate this trend in future columns in the Worcester Herald.   The Worcester Police did an exceptional job handling this crisis with the low level of manpower available to them on this night. They are still interviewing witnesses as I type this report.
