As you know, highly-respected and longtime 17th District State Representative, John Binienda, is not seeking reelection. With only weeks remaining before the September 9 primary election, public interest is mounting and the race for this seat is heating up.   On the Sept. 9 primary ballot, three Democrats are vying for the right to meet Republican candidate, Kate Campanale (in the November election) for the aforementioned state rep seat.

  1. Doug Belanger
  2. Moses Dixon
  3. Mike Germain

District 17 is made up of all of Leicester, Worcester’s Ward 7 (which is half of my City Council District 5) and Ward 8, Precincts 2,3,4.    In an effort to let the voters know where the four candidates stand on so many issues important to the town of Leicester, the City of Worcester and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, a D-17 Debate will be held on Thursday, August 28, 6:00 PM, at the Elks Lodge, 233 Mill St.

The debate panel will be Walter Bird, senior writer for Worcester Magazine, Dianne Williamson, columnist for the Worcester Telegram and myself.   We hope that you will attend the debate and we ask that you forward this email/information to Leicester and Worcester residents, business owners, crime watch groups, non-profit agencies and others who might be interested in this very important election.
Thanks!
