Now that the President has come and left Worcester, maybe we should look at the $200,000+ we spent to host him. There will be many people discussing all the various benefits of his visit, but let me focus solely on the airport.
Needless to say we have always had an image problem at Worcester Regional Airport. It got so bad that the Airport Commission even voted to change the name to Worcester-MetroWest-Boston Airport. We could have called it WMWBA, a combination of the MBTA and WRTA not to be confused with the MWRA. Then we could have had Wayfarer signs for the WMWBA, sorry this Wayfarer system makes no sense to me. Instead we sold the airport to Massport, who was able to bring in a quality airline like JetBlue that has been supported mainly by people in Central Massachusetss without a name change. Think we made the right decision?
Although Worcester Airport is starting to become a logical choice for many in Central Massachusetts, there are still many people who do not even know that Worcester Airport exists never mind has JetBlue. President Obama flying into Worcester Regional Airport went a long way to closing that gap! Considering Massport already has an ad campaign that shows everyday people using Worcester Airport like the one here entitled “First Time Flying Solo”, how about one with President Obama?
- Good Enough For A President
- We Treat You Like A President
- If A Guy From Chicago Can Find Us, Why Can’t You
- I Flew Into Worcester To Get To Weston
- Who Needs An Access Road
- No Lines Here Unlike The Affordable Care Act
The possibilities are endless.
The more people who know about Worcester Regional Airport, the more people will come here and the better chance we have of getting more airlines with more flight destinations. I can recall about ten years ago when we had three different consultants, amazing none of them recommended the importance of CAT III, costing us around $400,000. That was a waste of money!!! Besides all the other benefits that you will read about today, the President’s visit was well worth the cost for just the airport alone.
Lastly all four flights were able to fly in and out of Worcester today.
