There are numerous churches around the City of Worcester that have been taken over by other churches.   Look no further then the Convoy of Hope at Crystal Park this week-end that was conducted by the new church that took over Holy Name.  What about St Catherine of Sweden or St Casimir, they are both still churches today but not part of the Worcester Diocese .

Actually the Diocese could make a $400,000 contribution, the amount they would have spent to tear the building down, to a a prospective congregation that can show that they have the financial capability to make the repairs and have a strong enough congregation to maintain the church.

Here are some other interesting facts that we read in the memorandum filed with the Historical Commission by the Diocese:

  1. Between November, 2008 and April, 2016, the Diocese has spent over $1,000,000 in repairs.
  2. Between 2001 and 2015: Baptisms have dropped from 90 to 28, First Communion 50 to 23, Confirmations 45 to 15 and Baptisms 26 to 4
  3. In fiscal 2015, the church had a deficit of $17,282 and outstanding bills in the amount of 88,565

The current congregation can not save this church, maybe another one can.  Why not find out if there is someone and the building can be saved?   The current delay only puts off the inevitable.
