Now that the world cup is over and we are in pre-season in Europe, its time for our most favorite part of the soccer year, the open transfer window and rumors. Since the USA was eliminated from the World Cup several MLS based players have been subject of transfer rumors to European teams. I did write earlier how the World Cup is basically players playing for new contracts with better teams and that is no different here in America.
The hottest rumors are swirling around 21 year old Seattle Sounder defender DeAndre Yedlin. He is being linked to several top tier clubs in Europe like Italy’s Roma, France’s Lyon, and Liverpool from England. These are just a few of the teams that have either made contact with Seattle or are rumored to have interest in the young defender. We also know other Italian teams are interested in him. Yedlin is only in his 2nd pro season and my hope is he chooses a smaller league if he has that chance. It will give him a better chance at getting more first team action in a better league than the MLS. Seattle has already given their price tag at around between $2-3 million which has started a bidding war between clubs. This transfer might not break Jozy Altidore’s record of $10 million but it might break record for a defender.
Matt Besler, the 27 year old central defender from Sporting Kansas City, has also drawn interest from multiple teams in Europe although these clubs aren’t the same caliber as the ones pursuing Yedlin. Reports have 10 teams in England and Germany expressing interest in the 27 year old with Fulham and Sunderland in the lead to sign him.
Stay tuned. I will have updates as soon as I know more on anything or anyone.
