CITY HALL NOTEBOOK – What’s up with Pleasant Street in #Worcester, from Tatnuck Square to Paxton line? http://t.co/shSkfsJvPO #worcpoli

Now from Paul Gunnerson:
One has to actually drive this section of road to understand it. Coming from Paxton heading down past the Worcester Regional Airport heading into Tatnuck Sq. there was always 2 lanes on each leg of Pleasant St. or Rt. 122 – Under this new striping of that road there are 2 lanes heading up and now only 1 lane heading down.
Why this is dangerous is – That section of road has a lot of curves and traffic moves fast. There are a total of 7 streets that people have to try and make a left turn to get to heading down this now 1 lane side of Pleasant St. I drove it to see what would happen if I wanted to take any one of those 7 left hand turns. Since you have to cross against the 2 lanes coming up to make the left. You now have to make a dead stop on the new one lane side.
The result is that every car behind you, now has to come to a complete stop and all traffic stops behind you. So the road is shut down now as nobody can proceed. I am certain that since some people travel so fast going down that part of Pleasant St. or Rt. 122 and coming into curves, there will be many accidents now.
Someone waiting to make a left turn onto one of those 7 streets on the other side is going to be hit from behind – It is inevitable – To wait and see how it works out for a trial period, could cost someone to be killed by being rear ended – I wouldn’t want that on my conscience! This is a very bad idea that should be put back to the four lanes we have always had. two lanes going up and two lanes going down – That makes safety sense!
As I have already described, we now have already had a second car rear ended about 2:00 PM today Tuesday 6/17/14 – A vehicle coming down the new one lane part of Pleasant St. was rear ended while attempting to take a left turn onto one of the 7 streets on the uphill two lane side of the street. The person who was rear ended today lives on one of those streets, and said he was the second one that he knew of to have been rear ended as a result of the change made to now have only one lane heading down Pleasant St. toward Tatnuck Sq.
Does somebody have to die before this stupid change that was made by the state is reversed?
