One year down and the support has been probably a little better then expected, with loads in the 85-90 range for daily flights to Fort Lauderdale and Orlando.  jetblue mickey orh Although many people maintained that we need an access road, I literally have not gotten one complaint from people on the accessibility of Worcester Regional Airport.    There were the typical naysayers who said ticket prices would be too high, before they were even being sold.   Other then peak travel times, when the flights are sold fast with our limited capacity, there have been very few complaints about the pricing.

The one major problem, however, that we have had are flights not being able to land and take off due to fog.   Although this will change when the new CAT III is installed,  JetBlue has changed the schedule around to try and avoid the early morning and late night fog.

  • Flight 1888    8:20 Orlando  —    10:56 Worcester
  • Flight 1887    11:20 Worcester —  2:28 Orlando
  • Flight 2020   11:25 Fort Lauderdale  —    2:33  Worcester
  • Flight 2019    3:40  Worcester   —  6:57 Fort Lauderdale

If we had not sold ORH to Massport, JetBlue never would have come to ORH.  More importantly the CAT III landing system, which will propel the success of ORH, never could have been installed by the City of Worcester.   We never belonged in the airport business and hopefully our City Council we realize that we do not belong in the Convention and train station business either.

Although JetBlue has done well at ORH, there is no way that they are making money at ORH on four flights per day with the investments that they have put into Worcester.  They need to increase service out of Worcester to make it profitable!!    Since we do not have CAT III, any additional service would be to leisure destinations like Fort Myers and Puerto Rico.    Tomorrrow at 10AM, Massport has a party at ORH to celebrate the 1st anniversary.

What better way to mark the 1st anniversary then to announce new service out of Worcester? Wishful thining–yes it is… I have heard nothing regarding any new services, but I will try to be at the airport tomorrow hoping there is one.   Stay tuned…..
