The Revolution battled the Houston Dynamo in a hard fought, potentially costly win 2-1 away. Houston had a 1-0 halftime lead.
But in the 2nd half the Revs battled back hard. Revs Lee Nguyen made his MVP candidate argument louder by scoring both goals. This win puts the Revs record at 16-13-4 52 points, and continue to maintain 2nd place in the Eastern Conference. This win also means the Revs will at least finish no worse than 3rd. Jermaine Jones did not start the game since he played on Tuesday night for the USMNT. He did come in to the game at halftime. He had the 2nd assist on the first goal that Nguyen scored. Despite the win, there is bad news from this game. Revs right back Andrew Farrell had to come out of the game after a tackle from Houston’s Jermaine Taylor. No word yet at the point on his condition.
Some more stats on why Lee Nguyen should be seriously considered for the MLS MVP.
- At 17 goals, he is the top scoring non-striker in the league
- his 17 goals ties him for 4th leading goal scorer, current leader has 25
- he has 8 game winning goals, Revs have 16 wins (where would they be with his goals???)
- of his 17 goals 5 assists, he has 11 goals 4 assists in last 13 games
- Revs are 12-1-2 when Lee has a goal or assist
- Revs are 4-12-2 when Lee is shut out
Lee will most likely not win the MVP, it will most likely go to NYRB Bradley Wright-Phillips who is league leader, or maybe even LA’s Robbie Keane, who might finish season with best record. But when you consider it is not a midfielders primary job to score goals, but assist them, and how many of Lee’s goals were game winners, Lee Nguyen has truly been a MVP. This is at least my opinion.
