What a difference a month makes.! The New England Revolution are the hottest team in MLS. Currently in first place in the Eastern Conference, 3rd overall in MLS.
At the start of the season, expectations were high considering the Revs qualified for the playoffs last season. The team also brought back defensive MVP José Gonçalves and had two picks in the first round. Both draft picks focused on offense with the selection of the the #1 and #2 forwards in the draft, Patrick Mullins and Steve Neumann .
The season, however, did not start well. The Revs got crushed in the first week 4-0, did not look good in the 2nd week loss 1-0 and not much better in week three scoreless tie. After 3 weeks the Revs had no goals, while their last two games they had 5 goals in each game.
Their defense still looked good. In 4 home games so far, they have yet to concede a goal. No real surprise when look back at last season. The Revs gave up 2nd fewest goals in Eastern conference (38 in 34 games), tied with 3 other teams for 3rd in all of MLS. All this while last season’s defensive MVP (Goncalves) is out with an injury, although he should be back soon.
Team passing has improved leading to more offense and the Revs going 5-0-1 since their last loss to DC United at their home field. Lee Nguyen leads team with 5 goals and tied for 2nd with 3 goals is 1st round draft pick Mullins and last season’s leading scorer Diego Fagundez . Complete stats.
