Seven months after state officials apologized for the roll-out of a plan to start a colony of venomous timber rattlesnakes on a Quabbin Reservoir island, they’ve finally convened a working group focused on soliciting public input on the controversial proposal.

Supporters of the proposal, a bid to restart an endangered species by placing it on the remote island called Mt. Zion, say the plan is grounded in science and aimed at protecting a vulnerable population that is not a big threat to humans.
