After the Revolution beat up on Orlando last week, four Revs players, Diego Fagundez, Scott Caldwell, Lee Nguyen, and Chris Tierney were all picked for this weeks MLS team of the week. Lee Nguyen was the most impressive with 3 assists.
“I can come in tell you Lee had zero goals, zero assists and was better than tonight. Tonight I thought he was really good obviously he had three assists. I don’t want to knock that all, but I really cant look at stats when I look at film, just like I don’t look at records when I look at how impactful or who you are playing at, you can look at a team and where they stand in the standings, you have to look at the films and break them down. The same way I look Lee I don’t look at it as goals and assists, I look at the impact he’s having in the game.” Jay Heaps post game
But Chris Tierney continues his quite performances, as he’s done all season, and for most of his career. His abilities to push up down the left side on the attacks, and his abilities on set pieces and crosses into the opponents penalty area continues to be a big source of goals and attacks on the offensive side.
“We talk about Chris and what he can do. The ball over the top their was perfect, that first goal. Cause we knew, we were almost hoping that he would get a little bit of space and be able to hit that ball because we haven’t been able to test their back line because they were dropping back so quickly and sitting so deep, our speed couldn’t get behind them. So that was really the first time we were able to get over the top, if you are hitting that ball three or four times you can hit it on the third or fourth time, he hit it on the first time and it was perfect, and you knew the moment it came of his foot it would put their back line under pressure.” Jay Heaps post game
It was great to finally see the Revs be able to go up 2-0 and more against an opponent this season. Earlier this season, when New England had their struggles and winless streaks, many of these ties they have were a result of failing to go up 2-0 against their opponent before conceding the tying goal. Even though Orlando didn’t put up much of a fight, their keeper Tally Hall really kept them in the game until New England scored their 2nd of the match with 6 minutes to go. This game could of easily been another one of these 1-1 ties, but the Revs didn’t let go of the gas pedal here.
“I thought we prepared really well this week. I felt if we could get them pinned, we could really make it hard for them to get and I thought that’s what we did really well.” Jay Heaps post game
