A plumbing contractor who was injured in a Wednesday propane explosion has died from his injuries.
NEW BRAINTREE— A plumbing contractor who was injured Wednesday, when a propane leak to a furnace he was installing was ignited, died from his injuries Sunday, police said.
The Worcester Telegram and Gazette reported that Roger Charpentier, 67, of Brookfield, was installing a propane furnace in a home at 791 Wine Road in New Braintree, when an apparent propane leak was ignited by a water heater pilot, causing an explosion that authorities said lifted the house 6 to 12 inches off its foundation.
Charpentier was found in a swimming pool with severe burns over much of his body. Investigators say he apparently tried to put out the fire caused by the explosion before running to the pool. He was airlifted from the scene to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office,New Braintree Police and Fire departments, and the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office investigated the incident.
Police said the building is now uninhabitable and may be a total loss.
