Wow is the only word I can think of after the first 15 minutes of the New England Revolutions match versus the New York Redbulls. Wow because after 15 minutes, the Revs were DOWN 3-0!!
After 35 minutes, New England only had 64% passing accuracy, terrible, and 1 shot attempted. But a glimmer of hope. Teal and Lee combine in the Redbulls penalty area, and Lee, deep in the Redbulls box near the byline, crosses the ball, where Andy Dorman controlled the pass and shots the ball passed the Redbulls keeper Luis Robles, cutting the lead down to 3-1.
For the rest of the 1st half and the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half, New England looked like they were going to have another goal in this game. They actually looked alive offensively. But in the 55th minute, on a corner kick, Anthony Wallace shot from outside the box takes a deflection, and Revs keeper Bobby Shuttleworth, unable to do anything about it because the deflection changed the direction of the shot.
Just to add insult to injury, with 2 minutes to go, Jose Goncalves was booked for a 2nd yellow of the game, resulting in him getting sent off with a red card, suspending him for next week. Jose was called for a push from behind, inside the penalty box resulting in a penalty kick, although I think the call was weak, and 2 minutes to go in the game, I felt that call was just not necessary. But it was a foul and had to be called, although Jose was only trying to play defense. Bobby Shuttleworth not only made the save, but saved the rebound shot, showing some fight and pride, despite ultimately losing 4-1.
