Former City Manager Michael V. O’Brien, who led the city as its chief executive for 10 years before stepping down in January, on Wednesday endorsed Republicans Charlie Baker for governor and Karyn Polito for lieutenant governor…
He said the state needs an experienced leader who has successfully managed a large organization in order to get the very best out of state government services, staff and the tax dollars expended.
As governor, he said, Mr. Baker would be able to put his real-life experience and track record to work for the benefit of the commonwealth and all its residents.
Mr. O’Brien added that Ms. Polito brings an “incredible working knowledge” in regard to the challenges and opportunities facing small towns and big cities.
“No question, private sector jobs and successful businesses are the fuel for our economy within the city, region and state,” Mr. O’Brien said. “We need a governor and lieutenant governor who have created, managed and sustained private sector jobs and businesses, to bring that experience to work for the state. Charlie and Karyn will be able to hit the ground running.”
It is the first time in the 64 years of Worcester’s council-manager form of government that a former city manager has publicly endorsed candidates for statewide office….
“I know them both well enough to know they are dedicated to doing what is best for Massachusetts as a whole,” he said. “Both are good, honest persons with good hearts, with strong traits of integrity and humility. “That is why I am voting for them and why I have made this, my first public endorsements of any candidates, ever.”
