This Saturday, the New England Revolution take on the Montreal Impact. The last time the Revs played Montreal, in Montreal, May 31, the Impact shocked the Revs with a 2-0 win, ending the Revs 7 game unbeaten streak. This loss was the start of a massive 8 game losing streak. Back then the Impact were in last place, and still are in last place. Don’t think the Revs will, or can take this game or any other game remaining lightly.
Despite being the worst in MLS, the Impact are 2-2-1. During these 5 games, new Impact signing Ignacio Piatti has already scored 4 goals and 1 assist!! Even though this is too little too late for the Impact, this match wont be easy for the Revs. Along with Piatti, the Revs will have to try to contain Justin Mapp, who leads the team with 8 assists, and Felipe Martins, 6 assists.
It will be interesting to see this week how Jay Heaps sets his starting 11. Their last game was last Sunday and no midweek game. Players like Daigo Kobayashi, Teal Bundbury, and Charlie Davies were benched for their last game vs Chicago. This was due to Jay Heaps giving these players time off due to a midweek game a few days earlier.
The Revs will be looking to continue their hot streak, 4 straight wins, 5 unbeaten, and 5-1-1 since ending their 8 game losing streak. With 27 games played they are currently 3rd in the Eastern conference (12-12-3) 39 points, 3 points ahead of the Columbus Crew, who occupy the last playoff spot. With a win this weekend the Revs could be tied with SKC (Sporting Kansas City) who occupy 2nd in the East.
