Chelmford OPEB is estimated to be in the 40-50 million range, key line:
Finance Committee Assistant Chairman Tom Gilroy said if the town doesn’t devote a significant amount to pay down OPEB, it risks damaging its bond rating, which would lead to even greater costs down the road when it needs to finance projects. Chelmsford has been setting aside about $1 million per year since fiscal 2013 to pay down its OPEB liability, Cohen said, and aims to continue to put the same amount in each year. The number, however, continues to grow by an additional $2.3 million each year, he said.
