After snapping their 8 game losing streak midweek vs Colorado, the Revs traveled to Harrison NJ and took on the New York Red Bulls (NYRB). The Revs were ahead of the Red Bulls in the Eastern Conference standings, and had a great chance to put some distance between them. Last game before the bye week so heading into it with a 2 game winning streak and back in the playoff picture would of been HUGE.
- Revs were leading at half time 1-0
- New Hampshire’s Charlie Davie scored his first Revs goal
- Matt Miazga from NYRB was sent off right before halftime for hard foul
- Revs played whole 2nd half up a man
What happened in the 2nd half, while up a man (11 vs 10) was what can only be described as embarrassing for the Revs. The Revs looked sloppy, unable to retain possession, giving the ball away and less then 90 seconds into the the 2nd half Dax McCarthy tied the score. NYRB would eventually take the lead after Bradley Wright Phillips made it 2-1. Following the game Revs fans took to Twitter using the hashtag #NERevs:
Second half collapse spells doom for Revs in Saturday’s loss to the Red Bulls http://t.co/7ksYcphJtJ #NERevs

Wonder if Brek Shea would be interested in joining the #NERevs. He and Nguyen have an art studio together http://t.co/KOD64jImNo

In first 5 mins of 2nd half last night, #NERevs had just 23.1% possession & 67% passing accuracy (NY 87%), while up a man. #NYvNE #Atrocious

Opinions/thoughts
As a result of this loss, NYRB go ahead of the Revs in the standings by two points. On the other hand, the Revs are a spot out of playoffs , 1 point behind Columbus, and 2 points behind NYRB. Next home game will be against Portland Timbers at Gillette August 16th. No game this week because of the MLS all-star game.
This will give the Revs front office almost two weeks to make some moves to shake the roster. Former Revs forward Juan Agudelo is still available, although he prefers to play in Europe. Today I also read that former FC Dallas attacking left winger Brek Shea, who plays for EPL Stoke City but failed to make an impact there or on loan in the lower divisions of English soccer, is available for loan or transfer. I think he would make a great addition to this squad for a loan. Lets see what happens in the next week and a half.
