It’s that time of year again—time to think about going back to school. Help your kids prepare for (and maybe even get a little excited about) their first day back. Here are five tips.
1. Get in the right frame of mind.
Sleeping in late, endless hours at the beach, and weekends away, it can be a shock to the system when the alarm clock goes off that first day. Help the kids get in the right frame of mind by helping them adjust a few days ahead of schedule. Set an earlier bedtime and practice getting up earlier so they are well-rested their first day back.
2. Be prepared with the right school supplies.
Having the right supplies can help your child feel more prepared to head back to school. Ensuring they have the right books, necessary supplies, and some new clothes will hopefully ease the transition and maybe even motivate a little excitement.
3. Have a plan in place.
Having a set plan for the school days should help your child feel more secure going back to school. What time does the bus arrive each morning? Will you drop off your child? How, and at what time, will the child arrive home? Helping your child understand what the routine will be will go a long way.
4. Have a Plan B.
Have a backup plan just in case something comes up last minute during the hectic back to school mornings. Can a neighbor step in to help or is there another parent that can help with carpool duty? Having a Plan B is always helpful.
5. Make time for last minute summer fun
With school comes papers, deadlines, and lots of time studying. Making time for some last minute summer fun will give the kids some fun memories to think back on during those first few back to school days.
Going back to school can be a hectic time for both children and parents. Keep these tips in mind to help ease the transition.
