For any hardcore USA soccer fans, most of us know who Paul Caligiuri is, but for those casual, or even knew fans, I bet most of you don’t know who he is. Believe it or not, the USA team wasn’t always good at soccer, we even went 40 years between world cup appearances.
But during the 1990 World Cup qualifying phase, the United States defeated Trinidad and Tobago, who were expected to win and qualify themselves. Paul Caligiuri had other ideas, and scored the only goal in that game (1-0 win) to qualify themselves for their first world cup, in Italy 1990, for the first time since 1950.
