Register of Probate Steve Abraham

At first glance, the host committee list for probate register Steve Abraham’s Wednesday fundraiser at the Wachusett Country Club looks like a who’s who of Worcester lawyers, bigwigs and somebodies.

But dig a little deeper and you can bet the veteran pol’s support is a mile wide and an inch deep in his upcoming re-election battle against Stephanie Kotseas Fattman, the 26-year-old wife of state Rep. Ryan Fattman, R-Webster.

One political wag I know devised a metric to measure the financial effectiveness of what he called the “comically large” host list, which includes more than 150 names.

Let’s wait a few days until the cash haul figures come out on the state Office of Campaign and Political Finance Web site and then apply the MR(n)PH factor, or money raised per host.

Interestingly, among the hosts are some big Republican names such as John Budd, Robert Amorello and Steve Rodolakis, husband of GOP lieutenant governor candidate Karyn Polito of Shrewsbury.

By the way, some have speculated that Stephanie Fattman’s uncle, bigtime Worcester real estate lawyer Harry Kotseas, is sitting this one out.

In fact, Kotseas is obviously throwing his support behind his niece – setting up what will be a truly fascinating divide within the city’s Greek Orthodox community, with both the incumbent and his challenger moving in the same cultural circles.

One challenge Abraham will face is Stephanie Fattman will benefit from her husband’s vote-getting pull in southern Worcester County. Then throw in the influence of her maiden name in the city, and Abraham’s got a problem on his hands.
