Soccer returns to Puerto Rico this summer! On July 2nd, Puerto Rico FC, a new soccer team joining the North American Soccer League (NASL), owned by NBA’s Carmelo Anthony, will begin play against the Indy Eleven.

The NASL is considered 2nd division in the American soccer pyramid, but since there is no relegation and promotion in American soccer between leagues, the league tries to be brand themselves as the alternative to MLS, and compete directly with them.

The last time Puerto Rico had a soccer team in the top 3 leagues in the American soccer pyramid was in 2012, when the Puerto Rico Islanders last played in the NASL.

This wont be the only soccer going on in Puerto Rico. The Puerto Rican national soccer team will be hosting the USA men’s national team this Sunday May 22nd, as the USMNT will be preparing for this summer’s Copa America Centenario.

With many people living in the Worcester/Boston area from Puerto Rico, who will be watching this summer, or visiting home to catch a game? Let us know.
