No MLS action this weekend  . MLS all-star week as MLS took on Bayern Munich from the German Bundesliga, and won 2-1 with the winning goal was scored by Landon Donovan . None of the players on the MLS roster were from New England.     After the game Bayern manager Pep Guardiola refused to shake the hands of MLS all-star manager Caleb Porter, who seemed angry that the game was played rough by the MLS squad.   Donovan als announced that he will retire from soccer after this season.

At only 32 years old this was a shock to the soccer community.    No only were the pundits not considering retirement, but they figured he could play 2-4 more years, considering the age European players that come over play till.     Landon will be considered by many to be the best American ever to play the game:

  • #1 all time for goals and assists for the national team (57 goals 57 assists)
  • #2 all time in games played (currently 156 games).
  • MLS , he is the league’s all time goal scorer with currently at 137 goals, 2nd all time with assists.
  • MLS cup won 5 times in his career,
  • CONCACAF gold cup with team USA 4 times.
  • 3 world cups 2002, 2006, 2010

On the bright side, New England’s Diego Fagundez did play on Monday in the 2nd hal for the Uruguay U-20 squad in a friendly vs Peru, in Lima.

Earlier today it was speculated on twitter that the New England Revolution were given the ok to pursue USA midfielder Jermaine Jones.  Earlier this week, he passed on a 2.5 million a year deal with the Chicago Fire.   It would take more than that for him to come here, but if the Revs were able to make this deal happen, it would be a good addition to this team.   They are in need of new players to shake the roster up.   Since the transfer window now closed, the only other deal that could happen are free agent signings.    A roster freeze throughout mls wouldn’t be until mid September.
