Sharks Name Mougenel Assistant Coach

The Worcester Sharks recently named Ryan Mougenel as their Assistant Coach for the upcoming 2014-15 season.

With only one season of American Hockey League coaching experience, Mougenel will come to Worcester after assisting Mike Haviland’s Hershey Bears last season. The 38-year-old Scarborough, Ontario native began his coaching career as an assistant with the Fresno Falcons of the ECHL, before leading the Las Vegas Wranglers to four straight winning seasons in his first professional head coaching job.

Mougenel seems to be a good fit for Roy Sommer and the Sharks, as Worcester was affiliated with the Fresno Falcons when the young coach was behind the bench there, having the fortune of becoming familiar with some of Sommer’s coaching tendencies.

Crusaders Name Sheahan Assistant Coach

Brock Sheahan

Brock Sheahan

Holy Cross and Head Hockey Coach David Berard recently announced that Brock Sheahan will join the Crusaders’ coaching staff for the upcoming 2014-15 season. Sheahan will join Berard and Assistant Coach Juliano Pagliero behind the bench this season.

The 30-year-old has just one season of coaching experience, helping as an assistant with his alma mater of Notre Dame during 2013-14.

Sheahan played for four seasons with the Fighting Irish on the back-end, compiling 33 points over 161 games played. After Notre Dame, Sheahan bounced around in the ECHL, while playing one game for the Houston Aeros of the AHL during the 2009-10 season.

Merrimack, who plays in the Hockey East, finished with a disappointing record of 8-22-3 last season. The Warriors, much like Holy Cross, will be looking for a good start after a below average season.

Merrimack won the last meeting between the two teams, defeating the Crusaders during the 2011-12 season in the Ledyard National Bank Classic in Hanover, NH by a score of 3-0.

The Warriors graduated their leading scoring from a season ago, Mike Collins, but they will return four of their top five scorers in Brian Christie (14 points), Quinn Gould (14 points), Vinny Scotti (12 points), and Chris LeBlanc (12 points).
