The term ROOTING means getting into the OS or operating system. Why would one want to? The answer being each cell provider adds it’s own stuff that is commonly in the tech world called BLOATWARE. It can slow down the system but more importantly, it takes up space.

I have rooted phones for a couple of reasons, first being what techies love, because I can. Secondly for features that providers don’t offer. I wanted to turn my cell into “a hot spot” at one point. I have a tablet and it only works on WiFi, so if my cell is a hotspot I can use my tablet anyplace I have cell service. The question then to those who don’t know, “why would you want to if you can use you cell”. Here comes that answer again “SPACE”. My phone has one of the largest screens 5.7 inches, that looks huge to other cell phones, but 7 or 10 inch tablets look even better. Most cell providers will be happy to turn your phones “hot spot” on, for a fee. $20 for 2 gigs per month is common. Why pay if I can root it and get it for free?

On the outside it sounds simple, and to be honest with patients it can be done, you will need a PC or Laptop to do it, YOUTUBE has tons of videos as to how. SO you figure out (with help) how to root you phone, but now you need an OS to replace the cell providers. CyanogenMod is the most common ROM used, it can be addictive with nightly changes and things you can do with ROMS (OS replacement). I no longer root my phone, for myself the services provided by my cell service are OK and space not an issue.

If you feel brave and got a free weekend play around, understand that there are dangers, if you root you void phone warranty. Slight chance you could “brick” your phone but that sick feeling in your belly takes a while to go away. If your adventuress play around, if you like to play it safe but still want to know more there are hundreds of sites that will go deeper.

I hope I peeked your tech wonders, happy trails.
