It was an emotional week for the New England Revolution, following the firing of long time manager Jay Heaps. After back to back embarrassing losses on the road, Jay Heaps was fired at the beginning of this week, with five matches left in the season, and the best team in the league coming to town.

With out two of their star players, Sebastian Giovinco and Jozy Altidore, the Revs managed to beat Toronto 2-1, with all three goals coming after the 80th minute. Despite the absence of Sebastian and Jozy, it was a gutsy win for the Revs. After scoring first, Lee Nguyen’s 50th career goal for the Revs, Toronto, within two minutes tied the match. But the Revs didn’t quit, and a few minutes later, Kei Kamara headed in the eventual game winner. Good win, but however with four matches left, and their rivals ahead of them in the standings having fewer games played, the Revs playoff hope does look slim.

It wasn’t easy. They are the best team in the league. They’ve shown the ability to go on the road and get big results. I think we did, for the most part, to hold them to zero’s for a good 70-80 minutes. We got a great goal, they came back 1-1, the guys showed great resilience to get another goal”

It was a tough transition, you can never predict that. It came as a surprise, but we are professionals, you see this stuff in the business. We had to come together and push through. Yea there is a chance to make the playoffs, but we are also playing for pride as well. We got five games left and we want to give ourselves the best chance in each game.” Lee Nguyen post match comments

It was a really emotional week for everyone this week. I’m really proud of the guys efforts tonight, I thought when I look hoe they competed for each other, and supported each other, that’s what games are made of, and teams are made of. But we cant rest on that. We have to turn around and do something we haven’t done all year (win away), and in Orlando. We are going to enjoy tonight, but have turn around immediately and keep that mentality on the road.” Tom Soehn post match comments
