Hampden, Hampshire and Franklin counties and the Boston area received low scores when measures of climate, topography, and bodies of water that "reflect environmental qualities most people prefer" as gauged by The U.S. Department of Agriculture were considered. Worcester and Berkshire counties – as well as The Cape — are cited as average.
