The Saint Peter Marian High School varsity softball team from Worcester, Massachusetts, along with the Shrewsbury High School varsity softball team, are “pitching in” to help raise money for Breast Intentions during Women’s Health and Wellness Week. The teams will be hosting a fundraiser game on Friday, May 15th at Worcester State University’s Rockwood Field, 486 Chandler Street, Worcester, with a 7:00 start time.

Both schools have organized charity games in the past, and with Women’s Health and Wellness Week right around the corner, this is a perfect fit to give back to the community while playing the game they love. SPM and SHS have been inspired by this charitable foundation, which raises money to help breast cancer patients with expenses they may have trouble paying while going through treatment. It is a Central Massachusetts Chapter that takes care of local community members and it is done on a completely volunteer basis.“These are the things that make educational athletics better than the rest. Our kids are so cognizant of their community and are committed to service. I’m proud of what our softball team is on the field, but it’s things like this that make it a prefect representation of what SPM is all about.”, comments Pete Jones, Athletic Director at St. Peter Marian.

The evening will boast an excellent softball game, a full service snack shack and music and announcing throughout the game. There will be a 50/50 raffle and other prizes to be won. Cost at the door will be $2.00/ea, and added donations will be welcomed. Both teams will be raising money for the cause, by reaching out to family and friends, local businesses and the greater Worcester County Community. Through donations and local fund raising, their goal is to assist with the financial hardships that women face while fighting breast cancer.

During their treatments women are sometimes not able to continue with their jobs and the everyday bills start to pile up. Breast Intentions of MA will step in and help these women pay such bills as their rents, mortgages, utility bills, car payments etc. They also provide grocery cards and gas cards to families struggling to put food on their tables or gas in their vehicles. For more information please contact Kerri Carnes or Audrey Learned .
