Before we get into this, from a prior column the DCU returned $244,515 (50% of profit) fiscal year 2014 and $335,480 (100% of the profit the fiscal year 2013.    In other words there is not a very large return annually to the City of Worcester’s bottom line.   Who is the Massachusetts Convention Authority?    From their website:

The Massachusetts Convention Center Authority (MCCA) owns and oversees the operations of the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center (BCEC), the John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center, the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass. and the Boston Common Garage. The BCEC and Hynes have earned a rare gold standard from the International Association of Congress Centres (AIPC), making Boston only the fourth city in North America and the 12th worldwide to have been awarded this top standard, the highest certification level a convention facility can achieve under strict AIPC guidelines.

That’s right the MassMutual Center, which was owned by the City of Springfield, was transferred to the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority in 1997.     We need to do alot more research on this but there are many similarities between the Massachusetts Convention Center and Massport.  How was selling the airport to Massport worked for us??

More to follow on this subject.
