If you thought the NFL could not have done a worse job after Adrian Peterson Ray Rice, you were wrong.

Remember the original narrative that after Jackson intercepted Tom Brady in the second quarter of the AFC Championship Game on Sunday, the Colts linebacker took the football over to a member of Indy’s equipment staff because he wanted to keep it.     After the Colts equipment staff got a hold of the ball, they alerted coach Chuck Pagano that the ball appeared to be under-inflated, and then notified general manager Ryan Grigson.   At that point, Grigson contacted NFL director of football operations Mike Kensil.  Once Kensil found out, he alerted game officials at halftime.

But wait turns out that was a lie.   According to Pro Football Talk :

After previously declining to talk about the situation, Colts G.M. Ryan Grigson told reporters on Thursday that the Colts had indeed alerted the NFL to concerns about underinflated footballs before the AFC title game against the Patriots.   “Listen, you know, earlier in that week, prior to the AFC Championship Game, we notified the league about our concerns,” Grigson said, via NESN.com.

Let us review:

  1. The Colts had concerns about footballs being deflated before the AFC Championship Game.
  2. Expressed these concerns to the the league offices
  3. How much you want to bet Grigson told Indianapolis reporter Bob Kravitz these same concerns during the week?  He was on top of #deflagate the way too fast, the Sunday night right after the game ended.

Now would it not have made sense at that point for the NFL to warn the Patriots?   If you say “no”, the NFL should have sent their officials to the game and instructed them to:

  1. weigh each ball before the game
  2. never let the balls out of their sight
  3. weigh the balls again at halftime
  4. never let the balls out of their sight
  5. weigh the balls one last time at the end of the game

If this was done, all of this could have been avoided.      Instead the NFL did not warn the Patriots, did a horrible job running an “investigation” (sting operation) and now we have #deflategate!!!    This week-end Roger Goodell is considering a suspension for Tom Brady while La’el Collins signs with the Cowboys and Frank Clark signs with the Seahawks.

Roger Goodell should be fired!!
