The New England Revolution has now last 7 games in a row and 4 of those games they were shut-out.  To be fair I haven’t been able to watch any post World Cup Revolution games because of my work schedule.  Irregardless, getting shut out nearly half of a 7 game losing streak is terrible, and clearly the defense isn’t working either.    During their 7 game losing streak the Revs have conceded 17 goals (5 against LA) and only scored 3 goals.    The form of several players has dipped from last season too.    Diego Fagundez was the leader scorer last season with 13 goals and 7 assists, only has 4 goals and 3 assists so far.   The teams leading goal scorer is Lee Nguyen with 6 goals.

Out of 19 mls teams the Revs are 15th with 24 goals scored in 23 games played. The Revs are tied with 3 other teams for 4th most goals conceded with 31.  The offense is anemic and defense is not able to stop the opposing offense, not a very good combination.    It seems long ago that the Revs were on a 7 game unbeaten streak (6 wins 1 tie), before the current 7 game losing streak.

Team manager Jay Heaps is now in his 3rd season as manager.   They made the play offs last season with some good defensive performances and plenty of young guns on the squad with Kelyn Rowe, Diego Fagundez, Andrew Farrell, Scott Caldwell. They had veterans like Lee Nguyen, AJ Soares, Darius Barnes, Chris Tierney.   Maybe not all-stars, but guys that has been around for years now, along with international veterans like Jose Goncalves, Jerry Bengston, Saer Sene.   In addition during the off-season they acquired other veterans like Daigo Kobayashi and Teal Bundbury along with highly rated rookies Patrick Mullins and Steve Neumann.

After last seasons performances, there were expectations that  the Revs to be a top MLS team, or at least be above .500 and make the playoffs.   At least those were my expectations.    During their early season 7 game unbeaten streak, how many people thought, including myself, thought this Revs had to the talent and potential to be on of the best teams this season in MLS?    Now they are saying this squad sucks and has no talent.

I know the conversation will again be how cheap the Krafts are and that they don’t care about the Revs. I wont talk about that, I wont write here that the Revs need to sign a DP.  The Revs currently still have a playoff spot, but how much longer will Jay Heaps be manager? Especially if they keep losing? When do the Revs make a trade, or a signing to shake the roster?
